Earlobe Repair

Regain your confidence through earlobe repair. If it have been stretched by a tribal ear piercing or have split as a result of an accidental tearing while wearing earrings, earlobe repair is a quick, simple treatment which could be perfect for you.

Tribal ear piercings (also known as flesh tunnels) have become increasingly fashionable over recent years.  However, fashions change, and our lifestyles move on. If your earlobe has been stretched to over 8mm, it is unlikely to return to its original size once the piercing is removed, and regularly wearing heavy earrings can also stretch the earlobes, leading them to appear lopsided.

Whether stretched or split, our earlobes can be difficult to hide.  If you are one of the many who have compromised their usual style to cover their ears, whether by choosing a new haircut or constantly wearing hats and headbands, at Westover Hills Dermatology, we can help through earlobe repair.

The Earlobe Repair Procedure

The surgery itself is so simple that only a local anesthetic is required.  The amount of time it takes depends on the extent of the damage, but it is typically between 30 minutes to three hours. After the area is numbed, the elongated edges of the stretched hole are removed, and the fresh edges are then sewn back together. For lobes that have completely split, a slightly different technique is used to return them to their normal shape, but it can be quick and easy.

After the Earlobe Repair Surgery

As with any surgery of this nature, you may experience some sensitivity for a few days afterward, and it is essential to keep the affected area clean.  However, you should be able to return to day-to-day life immediately.  Our surgeon will discuss any aftercare required with you before the surgery and give you all the information you will need to take away with you.

You will see the benefit of the procedure immediately, and in just one to three weeks your earlobes will have healed, and you will be able to enjoy the full results. The small scars will fade over time, and we will do our best to disguise them in the natural folds of the ears, ensuring they are as inconspicuous as possible.  What’s more, there is no need to throw away your favorite jewelry, as your ears can be re-pierced six months after the operation, though we would advise choosing lighter earrings.
