Key Benefits of BOTOX in San Antonio

Not all wrinkles are created equal. Some develop from certain changes in the skin, while others form due to facial muscle movement. If you are a San Antonio resident who is dealing with these types of wrinkles, you should consider undergoing a BOTOX® treatment.

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a type of injectable purified protein solution that is safely delivered to temporarily remove so-called “dynamic wrinkles.” The product treats wrinkles like those found on the forehead, crow’s feet, and lines between the eyebrows.

The treatment is also used for prevention of migraine headaches and excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis. It is not normally used for lines and wrinkles in the mouth area since this could cause problems with the functions of speaking and eating.

How Does the Treatment Work?

Dynamic wrinkles are those created by underlying facial muscle contractions. BOTOX® works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the brain to the treated muscle, preventing it from contracting and forming a dynamic wrinkle.

Eventually, the product will wear off and follow-ups will be needed to maintain your results. Patients typically experience results lasting up to four months. It is normal to experience a small return of facial muscle movement after the three-month mark.

Is BOTOX® the Same as Fillers?

No. The two products work very differently, although they have somewhat similar anti-aging treatment applications. Fillers involve the injection of a gel that promotes skin thickness as a way of minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® works by temporarily relaxing facial muscles at the site of injections.

Will It Make My Face Numb?

BOTOX® will not make your face numb. You should have a full range of sensation in the area of treatment. The only difference will be that injected facial muscles will exhibit less activity than before the treatment.

What Happens After My Treatment?

Within about one week after your treatment, you are likely to begin noticing initial results. The area of treatment should look more refreshed and smoother. Any feelings of tightness or heaviness should fade within a week or two.

After about three months after your treatment, you should begin noticing a gradual return of movement and treated facial muscles. This is a good time to book another appointment for an assessment of your current condition. A follow-up treatment may be needed at this time.
