Maintain Beautiful Skin with Regular Chemical Peels in San Antonio, TX

Residents of San Antonio, TX sometimes find that their skin begins aging prematurely due to factors like sun exposure or lifestyle choices. As the years go by and we get older, some unwelcome signs of skin aging have typically begun to make their presence known. Skin aging can occur at a normal rate, a slow rate, or an accelerated rate. Many of these factors that determine skin aging are out of our control, while others can be influenced by our choices in the treatments we choose to undergo. Many people choose to avoid surgery that they see as risky, expensive, or leading to results that appear unnatural. Fortunately, skin rejuvenation treatments like chemical peels are available to enhance and maintain the appearance of your skin when performed regularly.

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are medical-grade skin rejuvenation treatments involving the application of a chemical solution containing different chemicals of varying strengths and concentrations. This treatment works exfoliating the outer skin layers, revealing fresher skin underneath that displays fewer skin imperfections like lines, wrinkles, blemishes, and scars.

Superficial Peels

A superficial chemical peel is basically a type of gentle exfoliation, typically involving the application of a chemical solution containing mild acids like lactic or glycolic acids. The outermost skin layer is not actually composed of living skin tissue. This layer is composed of dead skin cells, dirt, fats, and cellular debris. Once removed, fresh radiant skin is revealed.
Since the superficial chemical peel is the most gentle type of peel available, you will sometimes need multiple treatments in order to see the results you desire. Sometimes it is beneficial to go straight to a medium peel for optimal results.

Mid-Length Peels

If you desire the minimization of skin problems like light lines, wrinkles, or scars, a mid-length chemical peel may do the trick. Mid-length chemical peels typically utilize a solution containing a chemical called trichloroacetic acid or TCA to remove the epidermis or outer skin layer.

Medium chemical peels often require no sedation or downtime. In the cases of more serious skin imperfections, a deep chemical peel may be required.

Deep Peels

If your skin problems are of the more stubborn variety, a deep medical-grade chemical peel may be required. This type of peel normally uses a carbolic acid to deeply exfoliate both the epidermis and dermis layers of skin. This can result in the skin peeling and flaking for the longest period of time of the three types of chemical peels. A deep peel offers the most dramatic results in the reduction of moderate to severe wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks.

Chemical peels are a great option to rejuvenate dull skin for a glowing, refreshed look. Here at Westover Hills Dermatology, it is our goal to provide effective and lasting results to our clients. Contact us today to schedule an appointment at our office in San Antonio, TX.
