When to Consider Mole Removal

Everyone has moles. Some people have a few. Others are covered with them. They may be small or large. Some people consider them a nuisance. Others don’t mind them one bit. However, there comes a time when you may need to think about mole removal. Cosmetic reasons are one thing. You may not like how your moles look. You can choose to have them removed by a skilled dermatologist at any time. On the other hand, there may come a time when you are concerned about a mole. It’s more than a matter of how it makes you look. You’re afraid that the mole could threaten your health with melanoma, the most deadly of the three types of skin cancer. Know what to look for to determine if you should get rid of your mole.

New Moles

You have probably had some moles that have been hanging around forever. You might have even given them a name. That’s normal. Many moles appear in childhood and will stick with you without being any cause for worry. It’s a different story if they show up later on. If you are over the age of 20 and you notice new moles, get them checked. They may require mole removal.

Watch for Changes

It’s one thing if you have an old mole that never does anything. If your mole changes, however, you could have a problem. Make sure you see a qualified professional to have your mole evaluated to determine the next step.

When it comes to evolving moles, you need to look for any moles that are larger than an eraser on your pencil. They could be a concern. If your mole doesn’t have clear borders, you’ve found another red flag. Asymmetrical moles and moles that are a blend of colors are also indicators you could be dealing with skin cancer. If at any time you have a mole that is painful or tends to bleed, get it checked. Any sores on your body that don’t heal are a cause for concern, including moles.
